Leveraging web 2.0 tools in ProjectSpaces

9 May 2007 in

Integrating other web 2.0 tools and services into ProjectSpaces is a great way to extend its functionality.

We've been playing around with several Web 2.0 tools - dabbleDB, a web-based database app, and Wufoo, an excellent form building/survey tool. Both of these are excellent tools in their own right, but they also make great additions for ProjectSpaces and plug-in nicely. ProjectSpaces provides the really nice intuitive interface with the basics, but if you need to add a database driven tool such as a contact manager, or surveys (or other simple data entry forms), you can build them in dabbleDB and Wufoo and plug them right into ProjectSpaces either as a document or as an announcement. Many of these new tools out there give you code for forms and reports that you can drop into any editable HTML field (ProjectSpaces has lots of them). Check out this screencast that shows a couple of ideas:

You can also do this with Google docs and spreadsheets which we recommend very highly if you just need to share and collaborate on a Word document or a spreadsheet with a small group of people. We're working on a sandbox to demonstrate some of these... coming soon. Also, we are working on ways to take advantage of APIs of these other tools to integrate them more seamlessly.
